*** Olesik always had trouble with the letter “er”. Says “cancer” - comes out “varnish”. Instead of "rye" - it turns out to be "lie". He learned to growl from a puppy who was angry. Her name is Marina, and he stands in the middle of the yard, shouting: “Where are you, Malina?” Marina repeats: “Cancer, stream.” Marina teaches her brother. He repeats: “Varnish, rays,” sighing guiltily. The sister repeats: “Press your tongue, press it tighter to the roof of your mouth.” He, like a diligent student, takes up his studies. She repeats: “Say metro. We’ll go to my uncle’s place on the subway.” “No,” he answers slyly, “We’d better get on the bus.” And like on a sled, for example, he boldly flies from the mountains. Seryozha, only the letter P spoils things a little. It’s not so easy to say belt, frost, river, cold. But then one fine day a miracle happened in the morning. The older sister sneezed, he shouted: “Be healthy!” But he couldn’t say this word just yesterday.

*** The letter is like peals of thunder, like a Lion's Roar in the desert. I'm studying this letter, but it's hard for me to say. I learned from the crow “KaR-R-R-R!!!” scream at home today. And then, when I was writing, I repeated “R-R-R” all the time. All day long there is a roar in the apartment, croaking and screaming. By the evening, “eR-R-R” was able to say, sing, and also read.
Why can't my child pronounce the letter "r"?
Many parents face the problem of their children not pronouncing sounds, especially “r”. The reasons for this phenomenon can be very different:
- Anatomical. Some children have developmental abnormalities of the speech apparatus. Some may affect their ability to pronounce sounds:
- poor tongue mobility;
- malocclusion;
- poorly developed muscles of the cheeks and lips.
abnormal structure of the hyoid frenulum;
Fixing such problems is quite difficult. Special articulation gymnastics and frenulum stretching will help with this. In some cases, surgery is required.
Also, such a violation may be associated with imitation of someone from a close environment (for example, an older brother burrs, and the baby copies his speech).
- allergic rhinitis;
tonsillitis;
In this case, individual treatment is selected to combat the underlying disease. Children will also need to select a set of speech therapy exercises to restore speech functions.
The psychological causes of speech impairment are highlighted separately. In this case, consultation with a psychotherapist is required.

How to teach a 4-6 year old child to say the sound “r” quickly at home?
If the baby begins to burr or replace “r” with other sounds that are easier to pronounce, then you should not let the problem take its course. You need to work with the child. It is best to leave this to a doctor who specializes in speech development - a speech therapist. But not all parents are ready to use his services; some prefer to teach their baby to pronounce sounds at home. To do this, you should use a set of special exercises.
Exercises for the speech apparatus
To help parents, special exercises have been developed that will help develop the speech apparatus, which is very important for problems with speech and pronouncing the sound “r”.
Gymnastics for lips. The lips are also involved in the production of sounds. Therefore, the following exercises are used to develop them:
- stretch your lips into a wide smile and hold in this position for a few seconds;
- fold your lips into a tube and stretch them forward as much as possible (show the elephant’s proboscis);
- Close your teeth and open your lips so that your teeth are visible (exercise “Fence”).
Gymnastic exercises for the tongue:
- "Horse". The child must show with his tongue how the horse clicks.
- "Rock." First, the baby sticks out his tongue and tries to reach his nose. Then the tongue moves down to the chin. The exercise should be repeated until the baby gets tired.
- "Jam". The baby imagines that his lips are smeared with jam, which needs to be licked off with his tongue - first from the upper and then from the lower lip.
Exercises for short frenulum
If a child under 5 years of age has problems pronouncing sounds due to a short frenulum, then it is not necessary to solve it surgically. Speech therapists recommend trying to stretch it using a special massage technique, as well as special articulation exercises. Classes should be conducted in a playful way:
- Competition - who can reach the tip of the nose. Mom invites the baby to play a fun game - try to reach his nose with the tip of his tongue.
In this case, the tongue should be pulled up using maximum effort. This exercise requires 5-6 repetitions per day. - Lapping like a kitten. The child is asked to pretend to be a kitten and try not to drink, but to lap up milk or juice. This exercise perfectly stretches the frenulum.
An adult can also massage the frenulum daily. To do this, ask the child to open his mouth and raise his tongue. Massage movements are made with the thumb and forefinger, periodically (not too much) pulling the frenulum up. A day, 2 approaches of 2 minutes will be enough.
Breathing exercises
Improper breathing often causes speech problems. To improve it, the following exercises are used:
- "Birthday Cake" The child should imagine that in front of him is a cake with candles. His task is to blow out the candles. To do this, you need to take more air into your lungs and blow it out forcefully.
- "Snowflake". You need to imagine that the baby has a snowflake in his palm. Ask him to inhale air through his nose, and then smoothly release it through his mouth to blow away an imaginary snowflake.
