Learning tongue twisters
Today we will learn tongue twisters to automate sounds.
The tongue twister belongs to the genre of oral folk art. This is a specially selected comic saying, joke or phrase, with a difficult to pronounce selection of sounds, which must be pronounced quickly.
Tongue twisters appeared in Rus' a very long time ago. And tongue twisters were originally invented for entertainment. People gathered during the holidays and came up with various entertaining games. Including tongue twisters. After all, it is often difficult and very funny to pronounce even a simple tongue twister quickly several times.
Later, tongue twisters began to be used to teach children to speak well.
Today, this genre of folk art is widely used not only for children, but also for everyone who needs or wants to speak expressively and clearly: this is also in the training of artists, announcers, teachers, etc.
Tongue twisters are necessarily used by speech therapists to automate the sounds in speech. Since training in the pronunciation of complex sounds results in purity, clarity, and polishes speech.
In addition, by practicing pronouncing tongue twisters, the child learns to understand the meaning, significance, intonation and relationship of words in the text. He learns to monitor his pronunciation, not to “eat up” the endings of words, and to place stress correctly, because this can change the entire meaning of the text. His memory is being trained.
Another important quality that helps develop learning tongue twisters is attention to what others say, i.e. listening, ability to concentrate.
However, children perceive tongue twisters as a game. After all, you can laugh, joke about yourself and others when you can’t say a tricky sentence correctly. In addition, the text is usually humorous, funny, from life, which in itself is sure to cause laughter.
Therefore, tongue twisters are an excellent tool for the proper development of children’s speech. You can use tongue twisters in classes or in any other activity.
Or you can invite the children to try composing tongue twisters themselves. It is very exciting.
Today there are a lot of books with tongue twisters. These are both ancient folk and modern tongue twisters. As a rule, books have bright illustrations or coloring pages for poems. And on the Internet you can find mnemonic diagrams for tongue twisters. All this can be found, bought, downloaded. The main thing is to learn and use it correctly.
Well, now about how to learn tongue twisters specifically to automate the sounds. After all, each individual tongue twister trains certain skills in pronunciation of a specific “problem” sound.
1. You need to start learning short and simple tongue twisters first, and gradually move on to more complex rhymes.
2. First, you need to pronounce the tongue twister very slowly, clearly, syllable by syllable. The purpose of this step is to learn the tongue twister correctly.
If you encounter unfamiliar words, you need to explain them to the child, and also show a picture or draw the content of the phrase (mnemonic diagram).
3. We must remember that when a child learns to pronounce a sound that is difficult for him, he looks at the speaker’s mouth. Therefore, the articulation of an adult while speaking the text is important.
Pronounce all sounds clearly: both vowels and consonants. Pronounce problematic consonant sounds in an exaggerated manner, especially at the end of a word. It is very important that the endings of words are not swallowed. Now the main thing is to learn both words and pronunciation correctly.
4. Once the text is memorized, you can use it in silent mode. Only the articulatory apparatus will work here - no voice, only lips, teeth and tongue.
5. Then you can pronounce the tongue twisters in a whisper clearly and understandably completely from beginning to end.
6. And only at the next stage, pronounce the text out loud, but slowly and continuously, the entire phrase, without errors.
7. Let the child pronounce the tongue twister slowly and clearly several times in a row (3-5-10 times) depending on the child’s age and skills.
8. Now you can practice your acting skills. Play with intonation. Let the child say a tongue twister: interrogatively, affirmatively, exclamatively, joyfully or sadly, thoughtfully, angrily, in different voices, singing.
9. And only after this ask the child to pronounce the entire tongue twister quickly and without mistakes. Invite your child to repeat it three times at a fast pace.
As an example, I suggest teaching the following tongue twisters with children:
