Computer games as a modern means of correcting speech disorders in preschool children

Tasks of ICT in speech therapy

Computer games in speech therapy are not only children's entertainment. They help solve a number of important problems:

  • improvement of motor coordination and fine motor skills;
  • spatial orientation training;
  • speech correction;
  • increasing vocabulary;
  • training of HMF (higher mental functions);
  • teaching a child to use a computer.

All of the listed tasks can be accomplished either using one game or by selecting several and alternating them. It is thanks to their versatility that speech simulators are becoming increasingly popular.

INTERACTIVE GAMES IN THE WORK OF A Speech Therapist at a Preschool Educational Institution

UDC373

Abstract: The article describes interactive games and computer programs used in speech therapy work that promote the speech development of children.

Key words: correctional work, information technology, computer educational games.

From year to year, specialists working in children's institutions note an increase in the number of children with various speech disorders. It is no secret that often the speech of children of senior preschool age remains inexpressive and poor. The child cannot find the right words or construct a phrase correctly. Preschoolers often have problems with the pronunciation of various sounds. Such disorders define a risk group for the development of significant difficulties in children in mastering literacy, learning to read, write, and count. In this regard, the development of speech and the correction of speech disorders existing in children is especially important in preschool age. And, accordingly, there is a need to find the most effective ways to develop children in this category.

It is known that the use of a variety of non-traditional methods and techniques in correctional work prevents fatigue in children, supports cognitive activity in children with various speech pathologies, and increases the efficiency of speech therapy work in general.

We live in the age of information technology. Modern information technologies are increasingly being introduced into our lives. They are an effective technical means with which you can significantly enrich the correctional and developmental process, stimulate individual activity and the development of children’s cognitive processes, broaden the child’s horizons, and educate a creative personality adapted to life in modern society.

In our preschool institution, we have the opportunity to organize correctional education using electronic aids. New information technologies have become a promising means of correctional and developmental work with children with speech disorders. All children love to play on the computer, and the opportunity to work on it serves as an additional incentive to complete tasks. Computer educational games create high motivation for children and support their active perception of activities. At the same time, interest in the task is retained much longer. Using a computer gives a child with speech impairments the opportunity to, to some extent, independently assess the correctness of the task, since on the monitor he sees the result of his actions.

In correctional work with children, I use specially developed computer programs. These include programs such as: “Games for Tigers”, “Delfa 142”, “Mersibo”.

The “Games for Tigers” technology is based on the teaching methods of children with developmental disabilities G.A. Kashe, L.V. Lopatina, N.V. Serebryakova, R.I. Lalaeva, N.S. Zhukova, E.M. Mastyukova, T.B. Filicheva, as well as Education and Training Programs in Kindergarten, edited by M.A. Vasilyeva. It is a single software and methodological complex and contains the computer program “Games for Tigers” and an educational manual with detailed methodological recommendations for its step-by-step application in the correctional educational process.

Children really enjoy classes using this game complex, because all the exercises in the program are built in a playful form, while creating a problem situation, the solution of which is carried out by the means and capabilities of the program available to the child. While working on the exercises, the child, while playing, helps the computer hero Tiger Cub complete the tasks and together achieve the desired result. On the computer side, it is not an impersonal program, but a cheerful and amusing computer hero, Tiger Cub, who explains to the child the purpose and rules for completing the proposed task, helps to complete it, and gives a final or intermediate assessment of the action performed. This creates positive motivation when working with the program, since the child is interested in communicating with the computer hero.

The computer speech therapy program “Games for Tigers” is easy to use. It has an accessible interface with tooltips. Thus, no special training is required to work with the program, and user skills are acquired directly in the process of using it.

We use the speech therapy simulator "Delfa-142" to automate the delivered sounds, differentiate acoustically close sounds and graphically similar letters, to develop phonemic perception, elementary and complex forms of phonemic analysis and synthesis, word formation and inflection skills. Thanks to the sequential appearance of images on the screen, children are able to complete the exercises more carefully and fully. The use of animation and surprise moments makes the correction process interesting and expressive. Children receive approval not only from the speech therapist, but also from the computer in the form of prize pictures accompanied by sound design. The program of the speech therapy simulator "Delfa-142" contains several levels of difficulty in performing one task, which allows you to consistently develop a skill on more complex material and creates the prerequisites for its automation.

In general, this simulator promotes the development of coherent speech and cognitive abilities, and also helps in mastering lexical topics.

I also like to use games from the interactive educational portal “Mersibo” in correctional classes.

These interactive games cover all aspects of speech development, such as: phonemic awareness, sound-letter analysis, grammatical skills, vocabulary, coherent speech, learning to read, games to activate thinking, attention, and memory.

The use of games in the classroom significantly increases motivation in children and makes the work of a specialist more effective and interesting. The settings available for many games allow you to choose the difficulty level of the game in accordance with the topic of the lesson.

On the “Sound Kaleidoscope” disc I like the game of matching the vowel sound and the letter “Poor little dragon”. This game is designed for children 5-7 years old. A vowel sound is heard, the child must repeat it and assign it to the desired letter. In the settings, you can add a chest for non-speech sounds so that the child can better understand the difference between speech and non-speech sounds

Good games for distinguishing vowel sounds are “Two Princesses” or “Train Engines”. Girls prefer the first, boys - the second. The games have several difficulty levels. The game teaches you to find and distinguish vowel sounds among sounds, syllables, and words.

We use these games for both individual and subgroup activities.

To develop coherent speech, we use the game of composing stories based on a series of pictures “What comes first - what comes next.” The child must first arrange the pictures in the correct sequence, and then compose a story of 3-5 sentences. Sometimes we come up with a continuation of the story. I think that such work not only develops coherent speech, imagination, creative abilities, but also the intellect and thinking of the child. The game “Runs and lies” from the disk “I’m starting to speak!” for children 4 - 7 years old helps in mastering the verb dictionary. By watching the characters in the game and voicing their actions, the child learns to comprehend and understand verbs. Imagining the movements seen in the picture is another fun element of this game for kids.

Thus, the use of the interactive educational portal “MERSIBO” in the educational process, taking into account the Federal State Educational Standard for preschool education, helps improve the quality of the educational process, bringing it to a new level, and contributes to the development of children’s speech.

Recognizing that the computer is a new powerful tool for the intellectual and creative development of children, it is necessary to remember that it should only complement the teacher, and not replace him. We must not forget that we are called upon not only to teach the child, but also to preserve his health.

Therefore, in order not to overload the nervous system of a preschooler, working with a computer in my classes does not exceed 5–7 minutes, depending on the age of the child and the degree of exhaustion of his nervous system. Before the start of the lesson, to prevent eye fatigue, we conduct visual gymnastics with the child.

Recommendations for their use

It is impossible to use only ICT (information computer technologies) in speech therapy classes, because it harms vision and the child may get tired of working with the computer, even if he plays on it. By following certain recommendations, their use will be productive and will not harm your health:

  • It is enough to use 1-2 didactic games, the duration of which will not exceed 5 minutes.
  • You need to choose in accordance with the goals and lexical topic of the lesson.
  • Their use is effective at the stages of automation and differentiation.
  • The distance between the screen and eyes should be at least 50 cm.
  • When playing, the child should have a straight back.
  • After completing it, you should do a short exercise.

Speech therapy games on the computer should facilitate the correction process and make it more productive, increasing the child’s interest in learning. But without causing harm to health and without developing dependence on the computer. Therefore, it is important for a speech therapist to find a balance between the use of modern technologies and classic didactic games.

Computer games as a modern means of correcting speech disorders in preschool children

This article is an analysis of various sources on the description and application of computer technologies in the field of special education.

The article talks about the most well-known computer programs as an effective additional means of compensation in the process of correcting speech disorders in preschool children, and reveals the advantage of computer learning tools for children with disabilities over traditional means.

The article is intended for practicing teachers: speech therapists, defectologists, and will also be useful for beginning specialists and students of defectology departments.

An analysis of various literature shows that computer tools provide a specialist with an additional set of opportunities for correcting deviations in the development of a child.

A speech therapist who uses computer technology in his work needs to solve two main problems of special training:

  • to develop children's ability to use a computer,
  • apply computer technologies to correct speech disorders.

The use of NIT in domestic pedagogy is based on the basic psychological, pedagogical and methodological principles developed by L. S. Vygotsky, P. Ya. Galperin, V. V. Davydov, A. V. Zaporozhets, A. N. Leontyev, A. R. Luria, D. B. Elkonin and others.

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of children with various developmental disorders - these include speech pathologies, disorders of the musculoskeletal system, vision, hearing, and intelligence. The use of specialized computer technologies when working with them makes it possible to activate compensatory mechanisms and achieve optimal correction of impaired functions. Various developments are underway in this direction.

Thus, for people with musculoskeletal disorders, it is possible to change the configuration of the keyboard; a membrane keyboard with increased sensitivity and a keyboard with larger keys are used. Special finger sensors can be used.

For people with hearing impairments, special computer technologies have been developed in which the voice of a speaking person is converted into visual symbols on a monitor screen.

For people with visual impairments, a special keyboard with notches on the keys and programs are used to read out information - the so-called “Screen Reader” .

Attempts to visualize speech sounds have been made for quite some time. In the 70-80s in the former USSR, state funds were allocated for research and serial production of visual speech monitoring devices for the hearing impaired “VIR”, “I-2″, “VIR - 6 Intonograph” .

In 1987–89, the IBM Corporation introduced the desktop system “Visible Speech” based on a personal computer to the attention of professional speech therapists in the United States. In 1991, the first version of this program was Russified at the Institute of Correctional Pedagogy of the Russian Academy of Education. This program is primarily intended for working with both children and adult patients with impaired hearing (deaf and hard of hearing), but can be used in working with patients with intact physiological hearing.

This category includes children with primary speech pathology within the framework of dysarthria, dyslalia, alalia, rhinolalia and stuttering. The program is also effective when working with children with secondary speech disorders, whose main diagnosis is combined with speech pathology.

The first specialized product in Russia is the computer program “The World Outside Your Window” for older preschoolers and younger schoolchildren with hearing impairment, speech impairment, and mental retardation.

The program consists of five sections:

  1. "Four Seasons",
  2. "Weather",
  3. "Dress according to the weather"
  4. "Stories about the Season"
  5. "Calendar".

The use of this program in the process of frontal and individual work allows you to identify and overcome shortcomings in the development of mental operations, communicative, sign, and reading activities, and systematize your life experience in the field of seasonal phenomena.

“The World Outside Your Window” is currently used in special educational institutions, primary medical education institutions, and rehabilitation centers throughout the country.

Computer teaching technologies have also found their application in correcting the pronunciation side of speech in children with stuttering. For this purpose, a specialized computer program for speech development for stuttering “Demosthenes” . Work with the Demosthenes system is aimed at developing visual-kinesthetic and visual-auditory conditioned reflex connections in the central nervous system, allowing conscious control of the tempo, rhythm and emotional-intonation coloring of speech in communication situations. Visualization of speech components in this program is carried out in the form of pictures that open during speech, animated car movement, and an audiogram.

A special approach to the use of computer teaching aids in special education was applied in the development of the complex “Logotherapy Biofeedback Cabinet” (1998, “Biosvyaz”, St. Petersburg).

This technology combines therapeutic, health-improving and corrective effects on the child. The biofeedback room is designed for the prevention and correction of voice and speech disorders.

This technology can be used for stuttering, alalia, aphasia, dysgraphia and dyslexia, dyslalia, dysarthria, rhinolalia, phonation disorder due to paresis and paralysis of the larynx, functional dysphonia, speech tempo disorders, so-called speech anxiety, speech disorders in children and adults with hearing and vision.

The successful teaching of children to read, write and prevent dysgraphia is facilitated by the “virtual” school “Lessons of the Wise Owl” within the framework of Internet support (authors - speech therapists L. I. Kletnova, A. B. Larina). Thematic planning of lessons is structured according to the curriculum of the software and methodological complex for preparing children for studying in primary school “Learning with Logosha” . Thus, while studying the sound [A], children, together with Logosha, learn to identify it in stressed and unstressed positions, select words and pictures to match given patterns, and analyze the spelling of the letter A.

An information novelty, the training program “Dizartria.NET” was developed by the Center for Biocybernetics together with the UNESCO Institute of Information Technologies in Education.” This program is designed only to compensate for dysarthria, but not for stuttering. This program eliminates spasticity and insufficiency of speech motor centers.

Treatment includes:

  • setting an antispastic pitch of the voice,
  • setting voice timbre and voice frequency.

This program prosthetizes the speech circle between Broca's center and Wernicke's center. Only modified speech is used; the channel of direct speech perception is completely blocked using methodological techniques. Complete prosthetics of the speech circle causes: stabilization of the work of speech motor centers, an increase in the duration of exhalation by 2-3 times, elimination of speech breaks, suppression of the “fast” bone channel for the perception of one’s own speech, setting an antispastic pitch of the voice.

This technique of forced speech modification has been implemented and tested in speech therapy practice for a long time.

Demonstration presentations made in the Microsoft Power Point make it possible to get colorful, dynamic illustrations on the display screen for the material presented by the speech therapist, introduce children to an environment that corresponds to various lexical and grammatical topics, and introduce them to fairy-tale plots. One of the advantages of specialized computer tools is that they can significantly increase the motivational readiness of children to conduct correctional classes by simulating a correctional and developmental computer environment.

The specialized computer speech therapy program “Games for Tigers” allows you to work with children in the following areas:

  • "Phonematics"
  • "Prosodika"
  • "Vocabulary",
  • "Sound pronunciation".

The program is built on the basis of teaching methods for children with developmental disabilities by L. N. Efimenkova, G. A. Kashe, R. E. Levina, L. V. Lopatina, N. V. Serebryakova, R. I. Lalaeva, N. S. Zhukova, E.M. Mastyukova, T.B. Filicheva, G.V. Chirkina, as well as programs for education and training in kindergarten edited by M.A. Vasilyeva. It is addressed, first of all, to specialists - speech therapists and speech pathologists in preschool institutions.

The specialized computer speech therapy program “Sunny Castle” is a series of exercises aimed at correcting the phonetic and phonemic aspects of speech.

The program allows you to effectively work with children with various speech disorders.

The “Sunny Castle” program is designed to work with children of primary preschool age (3 - 4 years), middle preschool age (4 - 5), senior preschool age (5 - 6 years), and can be used when working with younger schoolchildren. Helps correct major speech disorders:

  • phonemic hearing,
  • formation of phonemic perception;
  • reverse speech kinesthesia.

The speech therapy simulator “Delfa - 142” includes exercises aimed at correcting and improving all aspects of a student’s speech, including the simulator can be successfully used in a system of exercises for correcting written speech.

The speech therapy simulator "Delfa-142" is used in several areas of correctional work:

  • correction of sound pronunciation, speech breathing and voice,
  • formation of phonemic perception,
  • literacy training,
  • formation and correction of reading skills,
  • formation of the lexical and grammatical aspects of speech.

The speech therapy computer game “Home Speech Therapist” is intended for working with children of senior preschool age (from 5 years old) and primary school age as a speech development aid, as well as for correctional and developmental work with children with speech disorders.

The program contains sections:

  1. "vowel sounds"
  2. "consonant sounds"

In addition, this program contains two fun mini-games - “Zvukovichok” and “Guessing Game” (growls, buzzers, puffs, rustles). These toys will help the baby develop non-speech (difference between household noises, sounds of nature, animals, etc.) and phonemic (difference between speech sounds) hearing.

Computer game “Speech development. “Learning to Speak Correctly” is an educational resource for individual and subgroup lessons on the development of phonemic awareness, tempo-rhythm, lexical-grammatical structure of speech and coherent speech.

Includes the following sections:

  1. Non-speech sounds
  2. Onomatopoeia
  3. Speech sounds
  4. Development of coherent speech

The section “Non-speech sounds” is presented by a video series consisting of a series of thematic and plot illustrations, and experimental tasks that can be used when studying lexical topics “Professions”, “Transport”, “Our Home”, “Winter”, “Spring”, “Summer” ", "Autumn".

A speech therapist teacher, using the illustrations presented, can carry out lexical work to clarify, expand and consolidate children’s vocabulary and grammatical structure of speech.

The “Speech Sounds” section is represented by multimedia task games of two types. The first type includes tasks “Hear the sound U”, “Hear the sound A”, etc. The second type of tasks includes the tasks “Determine the place of the sound U in the word”, “Place the pictures in the boxes. Sounds A, U”, “Place the pictures in the baskets. Sounds A, U, O”, “Game “Who is it?” What is this?”, “Count the sounds,” etc.

Thus, in modern speech therapy practice, computer speech therapy games are an effective means of correcting speech disorders. They are actively used both in individual work with children and with a group of children in the educational information technology classroom.

Varieties

Now there are a large number of different speech simulators that you can make yourself. But there are games that have proven themselves among specialists:

  • “The World Outside Your Window” is intended for older preschoolers and younger schoolchildren with hearing, speech and mental retardation disorders. With its help, difficulties in mastering mental operations and communication activities are identified and overcome. It is used in specialized correctional institutions, primary medical education and rehabilitation centers.
  • “Demosthenes” is used in working with children who stutter. With its help, special connections are developed with the CNS (central nervous system), allowing conscious control of the tempo-rhythmic side. The process is based on speech visualization.
  • “Lessons from the Wise Owl” helps to overcome dysgraphia and dyslexia.
  • “Learning with Logosha” - prepares children for school.
  • "Dizartria. NET" - this program is used only for the correction of dysarthric disorders. It helps to normalize the functioning of the speech motor centers of the cerebral cortex; form a strong exhalation; correct the prosodic side of speech.
  • “Games for Tigers” - this program was created on the basis of the original correctional techniques of famous speech therapists. With its help, you can correct not only sound pronunciation and prosody, but also work on vocabulary and phonetic-phonemic processes. It is used by speech therapists and kindergarten teachers.
  • “Sunny Castle” - exercises are aimed at correcting phonetic-phonemic processes. This game can be used when working with children from early preschool age to elementary school students who have any speech defects.
  • "Delfa-142" - this speech therapy simulator is aimed at improving all aspects of speech, including written. Therefore, it can be used when working with schoolchildren.

Interactive technologies simplify the learning process and provide additional motivation for children. In games, the main characters can be characters familiar to the child, which will only interest him even more. They can be built either in the form of a quest (you need to solve one task to gain access to another), or the child just needs to “catch” the desired sound.

The use of ICT in working with preschool children develops their computer literacy skills and a reasonable attitude towards such games. Interactive simulators are an effective tool for improving speech development if they are selected taking into account the child’s characteristics.

Computer speech therapy games

Computer speech therapy games come in two types – role-playing and non-role-playing. The first category includes first- and third-person games. Non-role-playing games include arcade games, puzzle games, speed games, etc.

There are certain types of games that are well known among specialists, so they are most often used in practice.

1. The Dizartria.NET training program is used exclusively for the correction of dysarthric disorders. There are 2 versions - free and paid. The first includes two modes - speech prosthesis and vocal cord relaxation. The paid version additionally includes a third mode - development of diction and prosody. Software and methodological complex “Speech Development”.

Slide 17

The first section has two modes of operation: “Study” and “Task”, which allows for a differentiated approach. The "Task" mode provides several difficulty levels. The “Speech sounds” section includes: “Voice” sounds (three levels of difficulty), “Voiceless” sounds, “twin” sounds, “Angry and affectionate” sounds. In these subsections, children learn to recognize sounds in words, count the number of sounds in hearing, determine the location of the sound being studied in a word, determine the number of syllables in a word, highlight words denoting animate and inanimate objects. The section “Development of coherent speech” is represented by games - tasks of the following types: - “Word - action”, “Choose an action”, “Word” – sign”, “Select the signs” with several levels of difficulty; — “Create a description”; - “Listen to the story.” The value of this complex is that in each task of the three sections on the menu bar there is a Disable/Enable announcer's voice key, which disables all announcer instructions. Using this key, the speech therapist can independently explain all tasks to students in order to achieve a better understanding of the task.

“Home speech therapist” The multimedia disc is designed for working on speech sounds and is presented in sections: Consonant sounds. Vowel sounds. Advice for parents. Mini games “Sound”, “Guess”. The first two sections contain material in a playful form that helps make pronunciation clear, and is presented in subsections: - correct articulation of sounds; - preparatory exercises; - production of sounds; — automation in syllables, words, sentences, phrasal speech; - funny tongue twisters; - instructive proverbs and sayings. Mini-games “Sound” and “Guess” form the skills of correct pronunciation of sounds and help develop phonemic hearing.

“Computer workshop for speech therapy classes in primary school” It is intended for practical development of knowledge, skills and abilities with children 6-10 years old. The workshop included 20 computer games and about 1,500 didactic exercises. The workshop includes five sections: Preparatory. Filling gaps in the development of the sound side of speech. Filling gaps in lexical and grammatical development. Development of gaps in the formation of coherent speech. Development of individual qualities of students. Monitoring the progress of the game is accompanied by sound signals. When done correctly they are more melodic, when done incorrectly they are more alarming. But the most important thing is the presence of a Lesson Constructor, thanks to which you can build a lesson yourself, choosing only the necessary exercises, setting the duration of each of them.

Computer programs “Timeline” - the program will help to identify, systematize, expand and enrich the experience of impressions that the child himself has accumulated throughout the entire previous period of life (the child is required to look at photographs of the world around him and correlate them with the seasons of the year) “Sunny Castle” - a series of exercises for children from 3 to 6 years old, aimed at correcting the phonetic-phonemic aspect of speech. “We read ourselves” - the development of speech in children with delayed speech development. “Learning to remember” - formation of a dictionary on the topics: “Pets and birds”, “Animals of hot countries”; formation of ideas about the integrity of objects.

Computer programs “THE WORLD BEHIND YOUR WINDOW” - the program is intended for children with a variety of developmental problems studying in special schools, special classes in public schools, preparatory groups in kindergartens, and rehabilitation centers. The program is especially useful for those children who experience difficulties in analyzing the phenomena of the surrounding reality, communicating, systematizing and verbally expressing accumulated impressions and ideas. “IN A CITY YARD” - the authors have created a unique learning tool - “Kaleidoscope”, which allows you to collect dozens of options for pictures of life in an ordinary city yard in any season of the year, experiment with signs, comprehend the boundaries of permissible changes, and establish a correspondence between image and word.

Computer complex “SPEECH KALEIDOSCOPE” The application of the program is designed for any age: from preschoolers to adults. Conventionally, in the computer complex program, 4 groups of modules can be distinguished according to their purpose: Group I is intended for working on breathing and voice; Group II – to work on speech sounds; Group III – to work on pronunciation in general; Group IV – for the development of auditory perception and auditory control of one’s own speech. “Speech kaleidoscope” can be used: at the stage of sound production, during the correction and differentiation of sounds from each other and at the automation stage. For this purpose, the program provides 2 game options in almost every module.

Slide 23

Requirements for organizing classes: it is better to turn on the game towards the end of the lesson; duration of work with the computer – no more than 10 minutes; frequency – 2 times a week; physical education and eye exercises are required; load dosing for visual impairment and neurotic disorders; contraindications – epilepsy.

When creating presentations, you must remember: font size in the text is 32 - 40, heading 60 - 100; Number of slides 15 – 25; there should be a contrast between the background and the text; If desired, you can add accompanying text, animation, and music.

Slide 25

Conclusions: Computerized developments increase the effectiveness of speech therapy sessions. In many cases, they simply revolutionize age limits, the pace and quality of correctional work. The use of a computer allows you to individualize the correction process.
