How to check paired consonants in the root?

When selecting test words, you can use different methods.

Change the form of a word:

  • change the number of the noun: oak (singular) - oaks (plural), lion (singular) - lions (plural)
  • change the case of a noun: snow (I. p.) - (no) snow (R. p.), skirts (I. p.) - (no) skirts (R. p.)
  • replace the full form of the adjective with the short one, and the short one with the full form: light (what?) - light (what?), fresh (what?) - fresh (what?)

Choose a related word:

  • call it affectionately: boots - boot, - mug, claws - claw.
  • take a word from another part of speech: carrot (noun) - carrot (adj.), walking (noun) - walks (v.).

If it is impossible to find a test word, then you need to look up the spelling of the consonant in a dictionary or remember it.

For example: bus, station, tomorrow.

Consonants in the roots of words whose spelling cannot be checked are called unverifiable .
